IMAP Struggles

Let the Build Commence

Following on from yesterday, it's now time to start building the workflow. No doubt this will be very hit and miss as I find out what functionality is available in n8n. One thing I know for sure, my new best pal CharGPT will certainly be keeping me company!

First thing to address was how I would connect to my Yahoo Mail account. My good friend ChatGPT suggested a Email IMAP trigger.

After creating a password within the Account Security within my Yahoo Account, I added the Email IMAP trigger to my n8n workflow, and set it up how I was instructed to. This included using the password created within Account Security instead of my normal Yahoo password.

However, after a couple hours of trying, talking to ChatGPT and many google searches I found one thing. Apparently the IMAP trigger in n8n uses IMAP IDLE, what ever that is, and Yahoo doesn't reliably support this. One supposed way around it is to force the IMAP node in n8n to reconnect at a determined interval.

No joy, despite everything I tried, and so I've stopped for the day and will do a bit more searching in my downtime as to a possible solution but will then attack it again tomorrow with a clear head. I've always found that if you spend time struggling with something then your head just fills up with mind fog. A short break away to clear you head and, a lot of the time, you can quickly find a solution when you next attack it.

One thing ChatGPT did suggest was to forward the emails from my Yahoo account to a GMail account as the GMail nodes are more robust within n8n. Kinda a fudge if you ask me, and I definitely don't want to sart this journey by bodging workflows together
